For more than two decades the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg has successfully promoted equal opportunities for women and men. Specific support for young women interested in a career in academia is part of our policy. It is obvious that we neither want nor can afford to ignore the potential of talented and highly educated women.
Furthering this cause, the Graduate School works closely with the Gender Equality Office to provide attractive course offers and financial support as well as attractive overall conditions for women at our university. Further information on the work of the office is mostly available in German, though you can find a brief summary of activities in the following section:
Scholarships for Women in Academia
As part of the agreement on joint targets with the University management, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Theology offers both doctoral and post-doctoral as well as professorial qualification (Habilitation) scholarships for the promotion of outstanding young women in academia. These scholarships are handed out annually and details (in German) are made available on the website of the Gender Equality Office.
A further scholarship opportunity on the postdoctoral level (Habilitation) is offered by the School of Medicine which also provides further information (in German).
Mentoring
The Mentoring programme "ARIADNE" was established several years ago and promotes young women in academia at all stages of their professional development. It serves to promote exceptionally talented and socially involved women who are interested in an academic career.
